Final Forms

I decided to change and alter the whole content from my drafts ‘ the wicked Afro ‘ to ‘molly’ this is due to the fact that it didn’t conform to the genre of hip hop and more of Afro swing. The whole dark with the red sections all add to the general house style of the products. They compliment each other through this, not looking completely different furthermore its dark colours relate to the genre of hip hop. I took Inspiration from a lot of different magazines. They all seemed to have the common theme of the logo being bigger or overlapping the head of the main artist or featured artist. However a lot of the Hip Hop magazines had their masthead fully go across the top of the front page. I challenged the convention by placing it in the top left, this is due to the fact that i looked neater and furthermore the logo is an M. Which I manipulated by extending its right leg on Photoshop. So this gave a way for me to present the logo as well as the masthead. on the other hand I was heavily inspired by a contents page by the source with a well known hip hop rapper ‘ Ice-cube ‘. The source’s has a close of up ‘Ice-cube’s’ face, i didn’t want that to be the same case as you could fully see his face but I didn’t want that shown as it would have went against the whole dark theme. So as well as  using a picture with low lighting covering majority of his face, I manipulated the picture using Photoshop.

Draft

This is the magazine front page, contents, A side and B side, and the double page spread. I have not finished designing the drafts due to the fact that I would like more audience feed back to make them the best I possibly can. I have made drastic changes from the last drafts I uploaded. first of all the background colour and the overall colour scheme. From my previous target audience feedback, they said that I didn’t seem professional enough because of how the models were positioned. they said it looked like they have just been thrown on and it seemed dull and lifeless due to the grey background, therefore I decided to go to the first feedback I got to make that theme more ‘Dark and sophisticated’. hence the reason I made the background a more dark colour. I decided to position the models in a uniformed manor in the front page rather than the models tilted on the front page. this gave it a more professional aspect to the magazine, in addition, this added a more significant affect on the model as a result.

Front page and Contents

Theses are the drafts to my music magazine and contents page. I did not have enough information for the a side so I made another side for the contents, furthermore this is a common feature in most modern day grime/hip-hop magazines. I stuck with the same four models in both front page and a side contents page. i wanted to have one or two models on the b side of the magazine as it would seem like a repetition if I had the same picture in the b side. overall it doesn’t seem like a professional magazine due to the way I used to colour scheme and  the background colour. it doesn’t seem like a grime genre due to how colourful it was. the yellow lines in the contents page weren’t the same size.

1.  This is the conventional background for most is not all successful hip hop magazine backgrounds; the colour is usually grey probably as it barely conflicts with any other colour.

Hip Hop Genre MoodBoard

I created this mood board as this is what I thought Hip Hop was all about.

hip hop moodboard

In this moodboard, there is a mixture of both old school and new school hip hop. Old school hip hop is also known as ‘old skool’ and this is the early days of hip hop where it just started around the time of 1979-1984. This time period was the peak times for some of the best rappers at the time, artists such as Run D.M.C, Tupac and Public Enemy. The new school hip hop was a movement in hip hop music starting 1983–84 with the early records of LL Cool J. this also help new upcoming artists bloom through the dense music scene, artists such as Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Nicki Minaj and many more.
